I contribute to travel guides, such as the Alastair Sawday series of 'Special Places to Stay'; honest, punchy, informative reviews of interesting types of accommodation. I was a co-writer of 'Eat Slow Britain', which celebrates the craft and dedication of some of Britain's finest chefs and producers, and also one of the writers for 'Go Slow England & Wales', which seeks out people who have stepped out of life's fast lane to live where they can appreciate their surroundings. Both books are published by Alastair Sawday.
I was also ghost writer for chef restaurateur Terry Laybourne's 'Quest for Taste' - part cookery book, part food polemic - which has a foreword by chef and television presenter, Rick Stein. The book explains why 'local and seasonal' is the best way to shop and cook, traces the history of various foods, profiles producers in Terry's native North East, examines techniques of cooking, and is liberally seasoned with personal anecdote, wry humour and recipes.
